Peggy's Story

Peggy started on the Home Delivered Meals Program July 2005.  Peggy is 82 years old and lives alone.  Peggy would tell the HDM Monitor every day how she was feeling better and was not going to be on the program very much longer.

Peggy finally felt great and was cooking for herself and put the meals on hold for awhile just to make sure that she did not need them.  Thirty days passed and she felt confident that she could prepare her own meals.  A few more weeks passed and Peggy called the Home Delivered Meals office.

Peggy needed the meals again; she had a health problem and needed the nutritional support the meals provided.  Peggy was on the program for a few months and decided she was doing okay and would put the meals on hold again.  A few weeks passed and Peggy called the Home Delivered Meals office.  Peggy had a mini stroke and had fallen down breaking her ankle.  She needed the meal program again. Peggy’s case manager was notified and the meals started up right away.  Peggy was very grateful to have the meals again.  She told me that she had missed talking to the HDM monitors and had really missed the meals.  She thought she could prepare and cook the meals herself but it was too much to handle.  Peggy said that she probably would not cancel the meals anymore.  Peggy is very spunky and independent and is on the road to recovery.
